Case Study:
Asian Racing Federation

The Asian Racing Federation (ARF) is a regional body made up of 28 national racing authorities and related organisations, representing prominent thoroughbred racing regions such as Japan, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, and South Africa.
IER was commissioned by the ARF to conduct an in-depth study that quantified the economic and social contributions of the thoroughbred racing industry across all ARF member jurisdictions.
In developing an economic model for the industry, IER worked closely with the ARF and its members, using a robust methodological approach to assess various factors, including horses in training, breeding, race day and non-race day activities, and wagering.
The study found that the thoroughbred racing industry in ARF member countries and regions contributed US$26.9 billion to GDP and supported more than 570,000 jobs across the region.
