Case Study:
Netball Australia – 2024 Constellation Cup

Economic Impact Study

The Constellation Cup is an international netball competition between Australia and New Zealand, featuring a series of test matches. Since 2010, the two teams have vied for this prestigious trophy. In 2024, the competition takes place in both New Zealand (Wellington and Auckland) and Australia (Perth and Melbourne).

With funding support from state governments, IER was commissioned to evaluate the economic impact of the matches held in Perth and Melbourne. In Victoria, this engagement came through Visit Victoria, while in Perth, Netball Australia sought IER’s services directly.

IER designed, programmed, and conducted an online survey among ticket buyers to gather data for the study. The analysis also included the economic impact of the visiting teams. Additionally, IER developed the model used to assess the event’s contribution to tourism and investment in the respective states.
